CHARACTER: Name: Michael Charing Age: 31 D.O.B.: July 18, 1978 Hometown: Providence, Rhode Island Physical Description: Michael's tall - hella tall, in fact. He measures around 6'5" on a good day, weighing in near 200 lbs, and is all strong, chiseled bone structure and slightly tanned skin. His eyes are green, and his hair is dark brown and kept at a pleasantly shaggy length near the bottom of his ears. He dresses in mostly plaid button-ups and jeans, though at work he springs for business suits to look particularly professional when he's meeting with potential patients. He has large, noticeable dimples and a cleft chin. Personality: At a surface level, Michael is an exceedingly likable guy. He's charismatic, he's charming, he's always willing to lend a hand and he's very, very personable. He does community service, he's Catholic, he's active in his church. Everything a good, responsible adult should do, he does it. He even donates money to the local police and fire departments every year. He's the type of person who everyone wants to be friends with. In fact, he's the type of person that most women want to date. He's respectable. He's professional. He's respectful and kind and mostly keeps to himself unless he's approached.
On a deeper level, though, Michael hates women. He automatically assumes they're all vain, shallow and stupid -- there to be used and manipulated and discarded. A womanizer, you might call him. He keeps to himself because he doesn't find many people at his caliber in terms of seeking out intelligent conversation, and all of that social awkwardness is an act to hide a kind of darkness that lurks inside of him. Michael thinks very highly of himself, you see. He thinks that he's taken his gifts (intelligence, good looks, etc.) and made something of himself and most people, they squander theirs. They're happy to live in squalor and let themselves become comfortable instead of always reaching for something better. He thinks that the people who do that don't deserve to have their comfortable lives and he's happy to take them away.
But, he keeps that part of him very much buried. He also keeps buried a lot of his facts about his past, and dragging up any of them or putting him in a situation where he can't improve his way out with his pretty smile and his dorky attitude will make him freak out. He has a short temper and is exceptionally violent. He does not handle stress well and will often act out in violence or desperation if put into a situation where he has no other options -- though this is only in the case of socially stressful situations. In the case of life-threatening stressful situations, Michael is more calm and composed, though if his life is directly threatened i.e., by another human, he may become desperate and anxious.
For all the explanations he has for what he does, Michael still feels a lot of guilt. He's by no means a sociopath, and he knows exactly what the repercussions of his deeds are. He quells the guilt with alcohol often. It should be noted that he's very much a reserved drunk but if someone gets up in his grill, he will become violent and belligerent. His alcohol tolerance is high enough that he does not become talkative or forthcoming with personal information while drunk. Sexuality: Heterosexual, though he's not romantically involved in women. His interest in them is purely control-driven and revolves around his need to assert dominance.

History: Michael was born into an upper-middle class family in Providence, Rhode Island. His mother was a flower child and his father had married her in an act of teenage rebellion. His mother, Grace, always treated Michael like he was the most important thing in her life and encouraged him to do what he wanted with his life, while his father, Adam, was always pushing for Michael to follow his footsteps and become a doctor. When Grace and Adam realized their marriage wasn't working, however, Adam did the most logical thing -- he tried to kill his wife. Michael, who was at the time about fifteen, witnessed the whole thing. His mother died and Adam managed to push Michael into the medical field. Michael's hate for women stems from this, as does his urge to kill. He aims for women who aren't good enough because he has a glorified image of his mother in his mind, an image of perfection, and the other women in his life do nothing but disappoint him.
As far as schooling goes, he went to mostly private schools. After his mother's death, Michael's family moved to New York City where his father worked at Mount Sinai. For college, he attended Columbia for his under-grad and went on to medical school at John Hopkin's. He specialized in cosmetic surgery and went on to work for a private practice that he interned for. As he's one of the best at what he does, it should be noted that said practice does mostly celebrities' surgery.
He started killing while he was in college. The first time was an accident -- a woman he was taking home from a club, trying to fill that void his mother had left in a very oedipal way. One mishap with experimentation into auto-erotic asphyxiation later, he found he was fascinated by the expressions of dying women and decided to continue his pattern. Eventually he graduated from strangling them with neckties to a more intimate kind of modus operandi. He used chloroform to knock his victims out and took them to a warehouse near the bay. He disfigured the bodies while the victim was still alive.
As he matured, he did his research. He became more discriminating as he grew understanding of the consequences. He stalked the women beforehand, finding out what they did, how they lived, how they treated other people. He found out if they deserved to die. Often times he'd speak to them in a club to get a feel for how they felt about themselves. His demo by the time he turned thirty was blonde, tall, early 30s, tan (all like his mother) but with very low self esteem and low-income jobs. He killed sparingly while in college and med school to keep from getting caught, making trips during the summer to keep anyone from discovering that he was on a school schedule, and since then has chosen victims from different boroughs of New York.
He doesn't make close friends very easily, but he met his best friend Gabriel in his first year of medical school. Gabriel was becoming a coroner -- he acted as a kind of conscience for Michael, making him feel guilty about what he was doing. On the ship, Michael won't have that conscience there to stop him. He has a serious girlfriend currently, named Annette (Annie). Serious on her end, anyway. He has her there because he ought to, it's socially expected. His father thinks he'll marry her. Michael wonders if he has to. But, she's pretty and she smells like hemp like his mother used to so he lets her stick around. She works for social services. She is everything Michael pretends to be.
While on the ship, Michael will be claiming that he is married with children, because people who are married and have kids are more respectable and trustworthy. Annie will be his wife and Grace, Cody and Marie are his children.
Special Skills/Abilities: Personal Weaknesses: Michael's mother is a huge weakness to him. Anyone mentioning he has mommy issues or something like that -- even "your mom" jokes in good humor -- gets a punch in the face. Or, put on his "kill" list. A second weakness is that he feels the compulsive need to kill. It's like a disease, though probably closer to an addiction. He enjoys it, but he also acknowledges how bad it is for him to continue doing it. If he loses the opportunity to murder occasionally, he may go batshit. Thirdly, his psyche is actually very delicate. He has a short temper that he can only manage to keep restrained in high stress situations for so long, and insults and accidental button-pushing make that even worse. Most importantly to note is that while he's a plastic surgeon, he's absolutely useless in actual medical emergencies. He can perform basic tasks like stem bloodflow, stitch and check vitals, but in terms of wide-spread illness or concentrated surgery or broken bones, he's mostly useless. Personal Strengths: He's very well composed. He keeps his cool and his facade very well. Aside from that, he's in peak physical condition due to his own vanity. He's very good at MacGyver-ing his way out of a situation.
Family: Grace Charing (née Masters, deceased) and Adam Charing (60, surgeon at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York), neither of whom are on the boat with him.
Preferred PB: Jared Padalecki
